Floral on Black
Floral on black is a full-day watercolor workshop focused on painting calla lilies with a strong emphasis on value relationships, rich foundational layers, and controlled glazing to build depth and luminosity. We will begin by establishing deep, saturated underpaintings and strong dark-to-light structure, allowing the forms to emerge through contrast rather than outline. The velvety matte black background plays a key role, pushing the luminous petals forward and creating a dramatic sense of space. Selective, gentle glazing is used only where needed to refine edges and enhance subtle color shifts, preserving freshness while building sophistication. The goal is to achieve elegant, sculptural floral forms through restraint, confident value design, and minimal but intentional layering.
