Watercolor Horses Class by Monica Austin & guest artist Ivy Starnes
LOOSE WATERCOLOR HORSES is a full-day workshop where we will learn an expressive approach to painting horses—no horse-drawing skills required! Working from provided drawings, we’ll focus on what makes a watercolor painting feel alive: color that sings, brushstrokes that flow, and confident marks that say just enough. We’ll explore calligraphic brushwork to suggest the movement and character of the horse, along with unexpected combinations of color that create energy and atmosphere. Special attention will be given to finding strong value patterns and using subtle layers of transparent color to build shape, depth, and contrast without losing the freshness of the first wash. You don’t need to know how to draw horses—or even how to draw at all. Come ready to play with color, loosen up your brushwork, and discover how much you can say with a few beautiful strokes.
