A Hindu woman wearing a traditional white veil as associated with modesty and respectability. By covering their heads or faces, women are seen as preserving their modesty and maintaining their dignity in public spaces.  In addition, during the humid and hot days, women protect themselves from the scorching sun by wearing beautifully decorated and light hand-woven gauze cotton, crepe, or silk saris with a traditional draping that has an end piece that can instantly shield the face from the sun called a pallu.
