Women are captured outside of a Hindu temple in Maharashtra, India.  The shimmering mirror glass work embedded in the elaborate pillars highlights some of India’s decorative art traditions.  The artisanal tradition has been passed down for generations.  Metallurgists suggest that the alloy is a mix of copper and tin. It is polished for several days to achieve the mirror’s reflective surface.  In Hindu beliefs, the image in the mirror is your own reflection.  In temples, the deity is a reflection of your inner self - ātman.  One of the synonyms in Sanskrit for the deity enshrined in a temple is bimba which means “reflection”.
